Buying shoes for big feet on the highstreet

My struggles to buy shoes on the highstreet started at a young age. I have a very traumatic memory of heading down to Clarks with my mum to buy my ‘magic key’ shoes for school. I skipped into the shop put my foot on the cold measure machine only to be told I had outgrown the childrens section. Aged 8 I was lead back downstairs to the leather adult section and shoe shopping was never to be the same again.

These days my shoe shopping is slightly less traumatic if only due to my expectations being lowered. I buy 90% of my shoes online at the usual retailers (Tall Girls, Long Tall Sally etc) but now and again its nice to try before you buy. Today I did exactly that and bought myself three pairs of summer pumps at Evans. I’m usually a UK10 but I bought all these in a 9 as they come up big.

So here they are…

All of these shoes are comfy, flat but also so versatile for spring and summer.

  1. I feel your frustration! My sister and I are both size 9 UK – the high street is getting better albeit slowly. Mostly living in cool unisex trainers these days like New Balance but smart is so hard. We did find sizes up to UK10 at Bicester Village – including Rupert Sanderson – when I last went so worth a visit. Anyway, my sister and I are hoping to do something about this… 🙂

    1. Thank you for your comment 🙂 I live near Bicester village, do you remember which shops you found the shoes in a size 10 in? Might be worth a trip. And keep me posted on the venture with your sister.

      1. Rupert Sanderson definitely did – very helpful assistant too – although some styles are quite narrow. Jimmy Choo, Christian Louboutin and Valentino went up to a size 9 and I have seen Manolo Blahniks in a 10! Brands that come up bigger – try Vince, Sam Edelman, Michael Kors, Stuart Weitzman and I have had a look at Ted & Muffy – they have some cute styles! If you keep an eye on our blog we will try to write helpful things about shoes/clothes! x

  2. Wow those shoes are lovely! I’m a size 9 too and always struggle to find shoes which are my size, ultra feminine AND flat. Deffo gonna get the nude and black ones if they’re still in stock.
